Courses

Northwood Sixth Form offers a wide range of A Level courses. We recommend that students take 3 subjects, while some choose to take 4. 

In order to begin any of the A Level courses offered by Northwood Sixth Form, students must achieve the following grades at GCSE. Conditional offers for the Sixth Form will be confirmed upon receipt of GCSE results in August 2023.

STUDENTS MUST HAVE AT LEAST A GCSE GRADE 5 OR ABOVE IN MATHS AND ENGLISH

ArtGrade 6 or above in Art GCSE or a strong portfolio of art related work
BiologyGrade  7 or above  in GCSE Biology and grade 6 or above in GCSE Maths  (students on the combined science course would need to achieve grade 8-7 minimum)
Business Grade 6 or above in GCSE in English and Maths
ChemistryGrade 7 or above in GCSE Chemistry and Maths  (students on the combined science course would need to achieve grade 8-7 minimum)
Computer ScienceGrade 6 or above in GCSE Computer Science and a grade 6 or above in GCSE Mathematics. If Computer Science has not been studied at GCSE, we require GCSE Maths at grade 6.
DanceGrade 6 or above in GCSE Dance 
DramaGrade 6 or above in GCSE Drama 
EconomicsGrade 6 or above in GCSE Maths and English
FrenchGrade 7 or above in French GCSE
Further MathsGrade 8 or above in Maths GCSE
GeographyGrade 6 or above in GCSE Geography
HistoryGrade 6 or above in History and English
MusicGrade 7 or above in music GCSE and Grade 6 in chosen instrument. English GCSE grade 6 or above 
PhysicsGrade 7 or above in GCSE Physics and Maths  (students on the combined science course would need to achieve grade 8-7 minimum and would be considered on an individual basis)
PoliticsGrade 6 or above in History or English
PortugueseGrade 7 or above in Portuguese GCSE
Product DesignGrade 6 or above in Product Design
PsychologyGrade 6 or above in English and Biology (students achieving the double award in Science should have 6-6)
SociologyGrade 6 or above in English
SpanishGrade 7 or above in Spanish GCSE
BTEC SportLevel 2 Merit in BTEC Tech Award in Sport (must include minimum of a Level 2 Merit in the Component 3 exam) or grade 5 and above in GCSE PE 
A Level SportGrade 7 or above in GCSE PE (and must compete in a sport/activity on the OCT NEA curriculum)

As per the ESFA guidance for funded education for 16 to 19 year olds, the core aim of Northwood’s study programme is the completion of three A Level courses.

Our Year 10 cohort for this year's Brilliant Club visited the University of Oxford this week to attend their Graduation event. Students toured Keble College and met with current students. The day celebrated their achievements and allowed them to explore their future options!
