Houses

Every student is assigned to a house when they enter our school and join a form group. Our house system is built on partnership, tenacity and community. Students participate in House competitions such as photography assignments, bake-offs, quizzes, sporting events, language challenges and artistic endeavours.

Students meet in House teams for assemblies to celebrate successes and take part in House competitions. Our House system is designed vertically so that students across every year group come together to get to know one another, support each other and to foster our ever present sense of community spirit.

Students are awarded House points in all lessons and activities in school for demonstrating any of the following traits:

  • Resilience
  • Engagement
  • Cooperation
  • Independence
  • Pride
  • Enthusiasm

These traits are the recipe for success at Northwood and every student in our care strives to exhibit these qualities at all times. They are fondly known as the RECIPE traits by all of us at Northwood.

Students receive regular updates on their individual House point totals and receive badges to demonstrate how many points they have accrued. Students are also updated on the points total for each House.

At the end of the academic year the healthy competition between the Houses culminates in the handing over of the House shield, trophies for the forms in the winning House and the raising of the winning House flag that hangs proudly for all to see.

The names of the Houses were selected by students to represent a RECIPE trait and are as follows:

  • Rose
  • Edison
  • Chadwick
  • Isaac
  • Pele
  • Ennis
