Careers and Higher Education

Students at Northwood Sixth Form experience a vast and varied range of opportunities designed to prepare them for life beyond school. These include, but are not limited to:

  • University visits – starting with one on the very first day of year 12!
  • University Fairs
  • An in-house careers fair
  • Workshops from prestigious apprenticeship providers
  • Mock interviews tailored to the needs of each student
  • Hearing from a range of guest speakers from a range of different career backgrounds
  • Bespoke support from organisations such as Uptree and pathways CTM

Work experience

All students in year 12 complete 5 days (minimum) of valuable work experience.

Students are expected to apply for this themselves, but are supported by the sixth form team in finding and securing a meaningful work experience placement.

We know the specifics of our students’ career aspirations and signpost them to a range of fantastic opportunities to help them achieve those aspirations.

University and Apprenticeships

Students receive bespoke one-to-one and targeted group support in preparing their applications for university and apprenticeships.

In 2022, 35% of our students who are going to university, are attending Russell Group Universities. Most importantly though, we ensure they are pursuing their passion.

In 2022, our students went off to a range of fantastic universities and apprenticeship providers including:

  • Oxford to study chemistry
  • British Airways to complete a degree apprenticeship in data science
  • Imperial College London to study medical biosciences
  • Durham to study maths
  • Nottingham to study computer science
  • Manchester to study medicine
  • Queen Mary’s to complete a degree apprenticeship in Digital and Technology Solutions
  • Birmingham to study politics and international relations
  • Royal Holloway to study Management with Accounting (with a year in Business)
  • Liverpool to study psychology

In relation to requests for access (i.e. careers timetables, lessons, assemblies or events), you will need to submit a Freedom of Information request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to the following:
