Mastering Learning

Our Mastering Learning programme equips students with the skills and behaviours they need to be successful, life-long learners.

Students of all year groups participate in this programme on a half-termly basis during PSHCE.

Year 11 students receive additional support during Monday period 6 sessions, targeted on exam skills.

Beneath the surface of any successful learner, sits a set of learned and honed behaviours that allows them to maximise learning opportunities.

These include:

  • Excellent attendance to school and punctuality to timetabled sessions
  • Managing time effectively, homework as an example
  • Preparing effectively for assessments
  • Being aware of the pitfalls (and advantages) posed by modern technology
  • Developing character through extracurricular opportunities
  • Staying healthy, both physically and mentally

These behaviours form the backbone of our Mastering Learning programme, which is constantly reviewed for relevance and efficacy.

Year 10 – ‘150 Challenge’

During the summer term, our year 10 students take part in the 150 challenge. This is designed to support year 10 in learning 150 of the most important facts from English, maths and science in preparation for their GCSEs. They take part in a supportive programme (guided by their form tutors) which helps to develop their revision and retrieval skills.

Please see the launch slides for this programme here and the 150 booklet here.
